Microsoft Voice Recognition Software
Where can I download/install Microsoft Speech?
I remember when I had MS Word 2002 or something, it had voice recognition. But now I have 2003 and 2007, but they didn't come with voice recognition. How can I download/install it? I heard it has to do with add/remove windows components or something. I remember it was in the language bar when installed.
If anyone has any other better voice recognition software, then please tell me. I don't want Dragon Naturally Speaking since it's not free (unless someone provides me with a full version link).
TY in advance.

not too far down is this section (Bold-type font):
"Hooking into Windows XP Speech"
Microsoft SRE for Windows XP is available in Office XP applications, such as Microsoft Word 2002, or Microsoft Excel 2002. If you have Office XP, or one of these programs on your computer, then you probably already have access to the SRE. You simply need to install the SRE as explained below
Here it says the Speech Recognition Engine (SRE) can be obtained free from Microsoft as part of their Speech Software Development Kit 5.1.
But if you have or had Microsoft Office XP or one of the Office XP applications, such as Microsoft Word 2002, or Microsoft Excel 2002,
then you probably already have access to the SRE. You simply need to install the SRE as explained below.
Further down this page it speaks of the SRE from Office XP like this:
"If you previously installed Office XP, but still need to install the SRE component
Put the Office XP CD-ROM into the drive.
Click Start, click Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs,
select Microsoft Office XP, and click the Change button."
Further on down it says this:
"The steps to install the SRE from the Speech SDK are different than installing it from Office XP.
In either case, however, the installation is relatively easy. The steps for training the SRE, configuring Windows XP,
and using speech recognition as described below are the same, regardless of the source for your SRE software."
At the bottom of this page is information about the author of the above page "Columnist Jeremy Moskowitz" including his email.
If you need the Microsoft Speech Software Development Kit 5.1. (because the don't have any of the Office programs) then you can get it here:

Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning $76.9 The dramatic growth in practical applications for machine learning over the last ten years has been accompanied by many important developments in the underlying algorithms and techniques. For example, Bayesian methods have grown from a specialist niche to become mainstream, while graphical models have emerged as a general framework for describing and applying probabilistic techniques. The practical applicability of Bayesian methods has been greatly enhanced by the development of a range of approximate inference algorithms such as variational Bayes and expectation propagation, while new models based on kernels have had a significant impact on both algorithms and applications. This completely new textbook reflects these recent developments while providing a comprehensive introduction to the fields of pattern recognition and machine learning. It is aimed at advanced undergraduates or first-year PhD students, as well as researchers and practitioners. No previous knowledge of pattern recognition or machine learning concepts is assumed. Familiarity with multivariate calculus and basic linear algebra is required, and some experience in the use of probabilities would be helpful though not essential as the book includes a self-contained introduction to basic probability theory. The book is suitable for courses on machine learning, statistics, computer science, signal processing, computer vision, data mining, and bioinformatics. Extensive support is provided for course instructors, including more than 400 exercises, graded according to difficulty. Example solutions for a subset of the exercises are available from the book web site, while solutions for the remainder can be obtained byinstructors from the publisher. The book is supported by a great deal of additional material, and the reader is encouraged to visit the book web site for the latest information.A forthcoming companion volume will deal with practical aspects of pattern recognition and machine learning, and will include free software implementations of the key algorithms along with example data sets and demonstration programs.Christopher Bishop is Assistant Director at Microsoft Research Cambridge, and also holds a Chair in Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh. He is a Fellow of Darwin College Cambridge, and was recently elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. The author's previous textbook Neural Networks for Pattern Recognition has been widely adopted.Coming soon: *For students, worked solutions to a subset of exercises available on a public web site (for exercises marked www in the text)*For instructors, worked solutions to remaining exercises from the Springer web site*Lecture slides to accompany each chapter*Data sets available for download |

What is some good voice recognition software that can be used to type in Microsoft Word?
doesnt matter the cost
"Dragon Naturally Speaking" is the first thing that comes to mind.
Otherwise, Windows XP has a built-in voice-recognition program - I THINK (not sure).
